Poplar belief therapy

WELCOME TO

You’ve been holding it together for a long time.

On the outside, you’re functioning. Showing up. Doing what needs to be done. But internally, it’s heavy. The overthinking, the pressure, the constant mental load.

You don’t have to keep carrying it like this.

We work with people who are used to holding it all together.

For children, that can look like big emotions that feel overwhelming. For teens, it often shows up as identity, confidence, and navigating who they are. And for adults, it’s anxiety, overthinking, perfectionism, burnout, and trying to keep everything from falling apart.

Whether you’re a parent looking for support for your child, or an adult who’s tired of carrying everything on your own, this is a space to slow down, process what’s been weighing on you, and finally exhale

ABOUT ME

You have permission to pause.

Let's Get Real for a Minute

Poplar Belief Therapy was created for people who are used to holding it all together on the outside, while feeling overwhelmed underneath.

Our work is rooted in the belief that healing happens when you have the right space, the right support, and the right approach not just someone to talk to, but someone who actually helps you make sense of what’s going on and move forward in a meaningful way.

Poplar Belief Therapy was founded by Janika, a licensed therapist with a background in education and over a decade of experience supporting children, teens, and adults through change, stress, and emotional overwhelm.

That experience shapes how we approach care as a team thoughtful, intentional, and focused on helping clients create real, lasting change.

Our team works with clients who are ready for more than quick fixes. Together, we help you slow down, connect the dots, and build the kind of awareness, coping, and clarity that actually carries into your everyday life.

We’re not here to just listen and nod.

We’re here to help you understand what’s been weighing on you, break patterns that aren’t working, and move forward in a way that actually feels different.

FAQ

Do you accept insurance?

Yes! I’m in network with Aetna, Cigna, Carelon Behavioral Health, Quest Behavioral Health, and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas.

If you prefer to pay privately, self pay sessions are $175 for 55 minutes. Many clients choose this option for greater flexibility and privacy.

If you have out-of-network benefits with another insurance provider, I can provide a superbill for possible reimbursement upon request.

Who Is This For?

Poplar Belief Therapy supports children 5+, teens, and adults navigating anxiety, emotional regulation, perfectionism, and life transitions.

Whether you’re seeking faith-based counseling or simply a grounded, compassionate space to be heard, therapy here is about helping you feel more connected to yourself, your people, and your purpose.

Do you offer virtual sessions?

Yes. I offer virtual therapy anywhere in Texas and in person sessions in Northwest Houston beginning February 2026.

Virtual therapy offers flexibility and comfort from your own space, while in-person sessions allow for deeper connection when face-to-face support feels right. Either way, the goal is the same: to slow down, reflect, and grow at your own pace.

How often should I come to therapy?

That depends on you. I take a client centered approach, which means we’ll work together to find a rhythm that fits your life and your goals.
That said, I typically recommend starting with weekly sessions. Consistency in the beginning helps build connection, safety, and momentum. Over time, we can adjust based on your needs, your schedule, and how the work is unfolding.

What can I expect in the first session?

Our first session is low pressure and focused on connection. This is your time to start telling your story in a way that feels natural and safe. I’ll ask some questions to get a sense of your history and what’s bringing you in, but there’s no script and no rush. If you’re ready to dive right in, we can do that. If you need to ease in slowly, we’ll do that too. As a client centered therapist, I’ll guide the session based on what I pick up from you. That includes your energy, your comfort level, and your readiness. This is your space, and we’ll move at your pace.

What kind of therapy do you offer?

I offer individual therapy for children, teens, and adults both in person at my Northwest Houston office and virtually for clients anywhere in Texas.

My approach blends evidence-based techniques with a warm, relational style that helps you feel seen and supported. Depending on your goals, we may use:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to understand how thoughts and behaviors influence emotions
  • EMDR therapy for trauma, anxiety, and distressing memories that feel “stuck”
  • Play and expressive interventions to help children process emotions and build regulation skills
  • Faith-based or Christian counseling for clients who want to integrate their beliefs into the healing process
  • Mindfulness and self-compassion practices to reduce stress and increase emotional balance

I specialize in helping clients manage anxiety, OCD, depression, perfectionism, burnout, and trauma, as well as mood regulation related to bipolar spectrum or emotional intensity.

Therapy at Poplar Belief Therapy is a collaborative process. Whether you’re helping your child navigate big feelings or learning to extend grace to yourself, we’ll work together to build awareness, resilience, and lasting peace.

Why is your practice called Poplar Belief Therapy?

The name Poplar comes from the poplar tree, which is known for its strength, flexibility, and ability to grow deep roots while adapting to changing conditions. It bends without breaking, a quality that closely reflects the healing process.

In therapy, we are not trying to force growth or rush change. The focus is on building a strong internal foundation, increasing emotional flexibility, and learning how to stay grounded through life’s stressors.

Poplar Belief Therapy reflects my belief that healing happens when people feel supported, rooted, and free to grow at their own pace, whether they are children learning to manage big emotions or adults navigating anxiety, burnout, or trauma.
